A bit about what I am doing...

So through the Canadian Bar Association's Young Lawyers International Program (YLIP), Evelyn and I were placed with the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) in Myanmar. The IDLO has many projects around the world, but in Myanmar their main focus is the Rule of Law Centres (ROLCs).  They run 4 ROLCs in Myanmar: one in Yangon, one in Mandalay, one in Taunggyi and one in Myitkyina. At each of these ROLCs there are different courses and workshops that locally trained national staff provide for lawyers, law officers (crown prosecutor equivalents), civil society organizations, and government officials. The basic training is a Foundations in the Rule of Law course but they also they offer more specialized courses like Legal Skills Training, Land Issues, Constitution etc. These courses are fairly basic as the legal education in Myanmar is very poor - but that makes the work all the more important.  So far my main task, in addition to reviewing and editing reports

Welcome back to Fox Trotting - back by popular demand!! I've been in Myanmar for a few days now, so I thought I should write a post to update those who are interested. Evelyn and I are staying at this rather nice hostel, Scott Hostel, in downtown Yangon. We have our own private room - which is a good thing since our apartment is not available until the 30th! The hostel is not super busy as it is offseason, so we were easily able to extend our time here. Downtown Yangon is quite busy, loud and tbh, a tad smelly, so I am happy to say the apartment we found is in midtown Yangon near the famous Shwedagon Pagoda and Kandawgyi Lake - just a bit out the hustle and bustle. In addition to apartment hunting the last couple of days, Evelyn and I went into the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) office to meet our coworkers and hear a little bit more about the work that they do. I am very excited to be a part of this team and contribute in some small way to their programmin
